Endocrine Care Plans

Sequence, teaching accuracy, and the ordinary stressor that becomes an emergency. Most errors here are order of operations errors.

12 plans in this system

Endocrine items are order of operations items. The content is a short list; the errors come from doing the right things in the wrong sequence, or from teaching that is almost accurate. These plans put the sequence in the critical points.

CP-011Members only

Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)

Almost every DKA question turns on sequence.

CP-012Members only

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

These items reward teaching accuracy and the recognition of hypoglycemia.

CP-013Members only

Hypothyroidism

The tested content here is almost entirely medication teaching.

CP-014Members only

Hyperthyroidism and Thyroid Storm

These questions test recognition of escalation.

CP-015Members only

Adrenal Insufficiency

These items test whether you connect an ordinary stressor to a physiologic emergency.

CP-097Members only

Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar State

Items give a very high glucose with confusion and no acidosis and expect you to name the state and choose fluid replacement first.

CP-098Members only

Hypoglycemia

Expect an item asking which food to give, where the answer is juice or glucose tablets and the distractor is chocolate or a candy bar.

CP-099Members only

Newly Diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

The sick day item is nearly guaranteed and any option that holds insulin because the patient is not eating is wrong.

CP-100Members only

Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone

Items pair a low serum sodium with concentrated urine and expect fluid restriction as the intervention.

CP-101Members only

Diabetes Insipidus

The distinguishing value is urine specific gravity, low here and high in plan CP-100, so read the urine before reading the options.

CP-102Members only

Cushing Syndrome

Priority items land on infection because the presentation is blunted, so a vague finding outranks a dramatic one.

CP-103Members only

Hyperparathyroidism and Hypoparathyroidism

The highest priority item in this plan is always the airway after neck surgery, and tingling around the mouth outranks a laboratory value in a stem.

Opening a plan

Every title here is a real plan. The full body of each one, including the interventions and rationales, is part of a NurseStudy Prep membership. Log in to open them, or see what a membership includes.

Educational use. These care plans are study aids. They do not replace your course instruction, your clinical judgment, or the guidance of the provider and the facility caring for the patient.

Care plan format. Diagnosis wording, reference ranges, and documentation requirements vary by school and by facility. Follow the format your own program requires and the standards of the institution where you practice.
